Cocoa and Forests Initiative (CFI)

Objective

Procedural coordination: Reducing deforestation linked to cocoa production and improving the sustainability of the sector

Description

The Cocoa and Forests Initiative (CFI), launched in 2017, is a multi-stakeholder platform aimed at combating deforestation linked to cocoa production in Côte d'Ivoire. Structured around a Common Action Framework, it brings together public authorities, cocoa companies, and international partners around shared commitments to forest preservation and restoration. The CFI thus constitutes an innovative collaborative governance mechanism designed to structure interactions and coordination between the cocoa and forestry sectors, which have historically been separate. Its main objective is to reconcile the development of the cocoa sector with environmental sustainability by strengthening cooperation between the cocoa and forestry sectors.
