APIICC Project
Institutional innovation for climate governance [1]
APIICC analyzes procedural instruments of climate governance in order to support the adaptation of territories to the impacts of climate change, particularly in the agricultural sector.
Climate policy governance is often inadequate, which can undermine efforts to address the risks posed by climate change, thus slowing the transition. The APIICC research project examines institutional innovations and experiments that seek to overcome this obstacle, which hinders the transition. The project focuses specifically on innovative governance instruments for the agricultural transition in nine countries of the Global South and the Global North.
The project uses a comparative and international approach to assess existing institutional plans, systems and mechanisms, identify their limitations and propose levers for innovation adapted to local and global challenges.
Observations on climate policies
Numerous public policy mechanisms and funding mechanisms exist today for adaptation and mitigation. However, while technical solutions for managing climate change are often identified, political and institutional obstacles are frequently overlooked, particularly in scientific and political discourse on climate. Indeed, climate policy governance faces serious risks of mismanagement that exacerbate physical climate risks, notably by slowing the implementation of technical solutions and the policies that support them, and by bypassing the long-term effects of climate change in favor of short-term measures. These political and institutional obstacles reinforce the "super-wicked problem" nature of the climate issue.
The focus of the APIICC project: the agricultural transition as a major global issue
Agriculture is a sector that both contributes to climate change and suffers from its vulnerabilities. In this context, which weakens the sector, the agricultural challenge is also explosive: how to manage its relationship with the climate while simultaneously feeding 9 billion people?
Institutional innovation for climate governance
APIICC analyzes innovative procedural instruments for climate governance and ongoing experiences in improving climate policy governance, particularly in supporting the transition of the agricultural sector.

Brazil, Ivory Coast, the United States, France, Gabon, Georgia, Mexico, the United Kingdom and Senegal.
Good innovation practices for climate policy governance
The project plans to bring together actors in the agricultural transition who, based on the results of the project and their experience, will propose, in collaboration with researchers, ways to improve climate governance.

APIICC worldwide
The project operates on an international scale, led by an interdisciplinary team of more than 17 researchers (political science, sociology, economics, agronomy, ecology), all specialists in climate issues.
This team supervises more than 24 young researchers (Master's, PhD, post-doctoral), contributing to a scientific dynamic that is collaborative, international and educational.
